Parkhurst Associates (in DC)

The W&M Washington Center is working with the campus Counseling Center to provide students in the DC Winter Seminars with an option for local counseling services.

While students may choose to work with any provider (paying out of pocket or using their own insurance), they may instead choose to take advantage of our agreement with Parkhurst Associates Mental Health Services (www.parkhurstassociates.com).

Parkhurst Associates will provide basic psycho-social assessment, counseling, and referral services, including individual, couples, and family counseling sessions. (Psychiatric consultation and assessment referrals are available within the Parkhurst group, at additional cost to the student.)

Students may take advantage of up to eight individual counseling sessions during their semester/summer/winter in DC.

Each session will involve:

  • An assessment of the presenting issue
  • Problem solving
  • Referral to potential resources for additional assistance
  • A determination of the need for follow-up

If a student either presents an obvious need for longer-term psychotherapy, or uses services for eight visits, Parkhurst will work with the student to take responsibility for payment through resources beyond the W&M seminars, such as personal or family insurance.

Student copay = $10.00/session
