After each speaker/panelist/site visit this winter, one student will be assigned by Annamarie to write a thank you note on behalf of the class. All thank you notes must be turned in to Annamarie, who will review it and mail it.  When assigned a thank you note, your responsibilities include:

  • Making certain you have the person’s name/title perfectly accurate
  • Obtaining a business card from the speaker to ensure you have the complete and accurate mailing address
  • Hand-write the note and sign it on behalf of the College and class
  • Address the envelope (no need for stamps)
  • Turn it in to Annamarie within 24 hours of your speaker/site visit encounter. If this is not achievable, communicate with Annamarie about an achievable timeline.

Proper thank you note etiquette:

  • NEAT HANDWRITING!  Go slowly and do your best… or worst-case scenario, ask a classmate to help you out!  This note must not only be legible, but a great representation of the College/class.  Please use black or blue ink.
  • LENGTH – your note should be more than 1-2 sentences.  It should show you took some time to think about and appreciate the guest’s efforts/knowledge.  5-7 sentences should get the job done well.
  • CONTENT –

1. Greet the Speaker/Guest

Dear Mr. Johnson,

2. Express Your Gratitude

Thank you so much for taking the time to meet with our class and discuss the current issues facing the DC Central Kitchen.

3. Discuss Use/Value – Say something nice about the experience and how valuable their insights/comments were.

We’ve been hearing so much about print media, it was incredibly valuable to learn more about social media trends and where we are headed.  So many of us are interested in careers like yours and your words were inspirational to all of us.

4. Mention the Past, Allude to the Future

It was wonderful to meet with you and we hope to connect with you again – perhaps on campus – in the future.

5. Grace

Thank you again for your time.

6. Regards

Sincerely, the W&M DC Winter Urban Education Seminar Students
